Television Is Not The Truth

Posted in life, photography by amoslanka on June 16, 2008

My jaw was dropped and my eyebrows raised for the extent of this video. Not because its a new idea, but because its said so well. If I’m not mistaken, the clip is from this movie.

Television is not the truth. Its a [...] amusement park.

If you’re interested in understanding additional realities behind television and its effect on our minds and culture, check out this book: Amusing Ourselves To Death by Neil Postman (wikipedia) of which this guy writes a great review. Interested in more? Check into some more Postman books, there’s several on my book list that I would highly recommend.

I’ve been reading and researching a lot lately into the coming world political movements that seem more and more inevitable. Symptoms and situations like the privatized Federal Reserve system, the Bilderberg Group, positive sentiments towards one world government, and the above mentioned numbing of humanity’s senses. Before you write me off as a conspiracy theorist, spend some time thinking about it, maybe looking into it yourself. I don’t adhere to any specific particular ideas but at the same time am resolved to trust no human, especially those at all governed by either money, power, or both.

Interested in another book recommendation? Try Brave New World. Author Aldous Huxley (of the Huxley family) himself stated that the book was based on the ideas put forth for a “New World Order” more than pure fiction. The Huxley family was well known for (Thomas, grandfather of Aldous) connections with Charles Darwin and major support of the humanist philosophies of eugenics. ( a philosophy that arguably contributed much to the 150 million human lives lost during the 20th century – the bloodiest known to man – carried out by various governments and political movements.)

Why does all this matter? Wake up! This is the world we live in. Understand what television and the various other forms of media and social institutions do with your mind. It may not all be bad, but just because you’re use to it and its a “normal” part of life doesn’t mean that its good or right. Ask question of everything!

I’ll be posting more on eugenics, pursuit of power, the numbing of the human mind, and many other political issues in the future. I’m sure I’ll be offending some people but do yourself a favor and be objective. We don’t have to agree on everything, but I think we all can agree that this world is messed up. Lets ask questions and not just numb our minds so we don’t have to think about it.

Television stopped being honest in the early sixties and grew and grew as a propaganda machine ever since. Now it is in the hands of a few. Murdoch being one of them.

The same is said of newspapers, beware mainstream media. Thank goodness for the net, at least surfing a topic will give differing views of it.

Read ‘nineteen eighty four’ by George Orwell and be aware that one day your ‘tube’ ‘box’ will have a camera inside monitoring your viewing and living habits. Whether you like it or not.

You’re right, Valentine, the newspapers aren’t any better off than television by now. Perhaps you could say that the fewer the number of people who regularly do something (ie- reading books, reading newspapers), the better it is for you.

1984 was a great book. Its futuristic outlook tends to be a very different, more “forced” future instead of the euphoric social world of Huxley. (For all you readers out there who have read neither)- 1984 deals with communism and a governance of absolute force. Brave New World paints a picture where the people are so “dumbed down” and “entertained” that they are easily controllable. Its like they’re sleeping but don’t know it, and effectively take the “blue pill” in order to stay that way.

You’re very much on the right track amoslanka, but understand that these diabolical schemes are not inevitable. They are opposed by a great many people and by the most awesome power on earth – the human spirit.

I like that word, “diabolical”. Sounds like a comic book :)

Good post and video. Joanna always hates (not really) when I get on my conspiracy theory kicks, but there have always been and always will be those who will take advantage of a population who is complacent and easily cowed over. Sometimes these events or people seem so over the top, like the Bilderberg group, that it has to be a joke. The joke is on us if we think there are those who don’t foam at the mouth for power on a massive scale.

allow me to play devil’s advocate: is it tv that numbs the minds of our culture? what about videoes we display online? do they count? what about the rants and raves of crap that people print in books, magazines and newspapers? is it really just the television? what about video games? what about the content in them…? what about the eye hand coordination the provide? what IS it that numbs the minds of our culture?

i venture to say that it is the content…and the guy in the video does make that point. but what about those of us who want to start a “revolution of information?” what if this generation takes the television and shows the truth? what If we take the internet and broaden horizons? what about that power? i think that is the kind of history making power i want to have….

it is a choice for every person to expand their mind to the content that is out there…what is right, what is wrong, how to manage it in moderation, how to use it, how to offer it.

    what will our generation do….?
