allow me to play devil's advocate: is it tv that numbs the minds of our culture? what about videoes we display online? do they count? what about the rants and raves of crap that people print in books, magazines and newspapers? is it really just the television? what about video games? what about the content in them...? what about the eye hand coordination the provide? what IS it that numbs the minds of our culture?

i venture to say that it is the content...and the guy in the video does make that point. but what about those of us who want to start a "revolution of information?" what if this generation takes the television and shows the truth? what If we take the internet and broaden horizons? what about that power? i think that is the kind of history making power i want to have....

it is a choice for every person to expand their mind to the content that is out there...what is right, what is wrong, how to manage it in moderation, how to use it, how to offer it.

what will our generation do....?

(mike)
Good post and video. Joanna always hates (not really) when I get on my conspiracy theory kicks, but there have always been and always will be those who will take advantage of a population who is complacent and easily cowed over. Sometimes these events or people seem so over the top, like the Bilderberg group, that it has to be a joke. The joke is on us if we think there are those who don't foam at the mouth for power on a massive scale.

You're very much on the right track amoslanka, but understand that these diabolical schemes are not inevitable. They are opposed by a great many people and by the most awesome power on earth - the human spirit.

You're right, Valentine, the newspapers aren't any better off than television by now. Perhaps you could say that the fewer the number of people who regularly do something (ie- reading books, reading newspapers), the better it is for you.

1984 was a great book. Its futuristic outlook tends to be a very different, more "forced" future instead of the euphoric social world of Huxley. (For all you readers out there who have read neither)- 1984 deals with communism and a governance of absolute force. Brave New World paints a picture where the people are so "dumbed down" and "entertained" that they are easily controllable. Its like they're sleeping but don't know it, and effectively take the "<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Matrix" rel="nofollow">blue pill</a>" in order to stay that way.

Television stopped being honest in the early sixties and grew and grew as a propaganda machine ever since. Now it is in the hands of a few. Murdoch being one of them.

The same is said of newspapers, beware mainstream media. Thank goodness for the net, at least surfing a topic will give differing views of it.

Read 'nineteen eighty four' by George Orwell and be aware that one day your 'tube' 'box' will have a camera inside monitoring your viewing and living habits. Whether you like it or not.
