Reasons I Love Oregon Numbers 39 and 40

Posted in friends, life, outdoors by amoslanka on August 24, 2008

Blueberries. Better yet, fruit in general.

The Frangers and I went blueberry and blackberry picking this evening. I don’t think I’d ever seen a real blueberry bush before. It made me feel very hunter/gatherer -ish. Kind of nomadic, ya know? We picked cherries for mom to can when I was a kid, but of course Nebraska doesn’t have the abundance of fruit that Oregon has. I especially love blueberries, especially the un-ripe ones. Blaine, the person in the picture above, wanted to make sure I took a picture of his blueberry basket next to mine. Mine of course is the green one with all the green and red blueberries in it. That sounds contradictory doesn’t it? I care not, for it is the tartness of an unripe blueberry that brightens my day. Reason number 40, by the way, is that some of the fruit is un-ripe and pick-able, which is just the way I like it.

Ok, I admit it, the numbers 39 and 40 are just made up. I don’t really have a list. But maybe I should?

Mmm…fresh fruit. Although I think I remember going strawberry-picking once when I was little, fresh berries were not something I experienced a lot of growing up in Nebraska. This is a great reason to love Oregon!

OK, maybe I do want to visit, even though we just “met”. Those look so good.
