<description>I once walked across the United States through Europe and the Middle East (that&#039;s over 6,500 miles on foot) with Fr. George Zabelka on a pilgrimage for peace. I got to know him pretty well durring our two years together on the road- he was 67 years old when we started - a tough guy who witnessed the true ending of the second world war - Naagasaki Japan was the center for his catholic faith in that country - a short time after the atomic bombing he was sent as part of the US occupying forces in Nagasaki and walked through the still smoldering ruins of the largest Christiain church in all of Asia - After the war George was a leader in the American Civil rights movement and spoke out early on about US involvement in Vietnam - He was a true American pioneer in peace and social justice anyone interested in really understanding how the church became involved in work for peace and justice needs to learn as much as possible about George. I can answer some questions about him...
