Heart of mine! What strange surprises
Mount aloft on such a stair!
Some great vision upward rises,
Curving, bending, floating fair.
This is Michal Angela Wilson. Dear friend, genuine soul. Portland, Oregon, December 2009.
Andrew Stonestreet
Its fall again. I seem to have been seeing this guy every September for the last few years, and we always come away with some great photos. Last year we met up in Felton, CA, this year Andrew spent a few weeks with us here in Portland.

Listen! I will be honest with you;
I do not offer the old smooth prizes, but offer rough new prizes;
These are the days that must happen to you:You shall not heap up what is call’d riches,
You shall scatter with lavish hand all that you earn or achieve,
You but arrive at the city to which you were destin’d—you hardly settle yourself to satisfaction, before you are call’d by an irresistible call to depart,
You shall be treated to the ironical smiles and mockings of those who remain behind you;
What beckonings of love you receive, you shall only answer with passionate kisses of parting,
You shall not allow the hold of those who spread their reach’d hands toward you.- Walt Whitman, Song of the Open Road
Back To Film
I’ve lately taken more of a dive back into film. I of course first got into photography doing film, not digital, and have over the last six months determined to find more simplicity. Also, acquiring a new camera (or two) was a bit of an encouragement in tandem. I’ve posted some additionals on my Flickr, do check them out. Or if you prefer the brevity, here are a few of my favorites from this winter:
Young(s) In Portland
Evan and Leanna (brother and sister) are friends I met though a friend who recently moved to Portland. Last weekend, the weather in the northwest was just beautiful, so I called them up for a spur-of-the-moment trip to a park for some photos. I can’t really express how appreciative I am of having good friends to spend time with and take pictures of, (on occasion), and the day’s photos could hardly have turned out better. Enjoy, and see more on my flickr.

Monday In San Jose
Promo photography for Mr. Stonestreet. These are little more than a taste, we’re saving the best for the release of his album, The Struggle And Repair in several months.
